Engage Media were quite alone in a working beta open source video platform plumi (do it yourself Youtube) back when I found them via the stillOpen forum in 2008.
The snowball of open source for multimedia has grown since then, to the point of this conference now running for its 2nd year.
The pain point at the time for our company was situations such as corporate block on Youtube, while our video content was shared on Youtube, expecting it to reach our customers and stakeholders. Fastforward to present day and I would have been able to host our own open source video platform without prickly approvals for network policies or budgets.
